Q: What are oil color mediums?
A: Oil color mediums are used to adjust one or more characteristics of oil paint to the artist’s liking
such as gloss, flow, durability, transparency and viscosity.
Q: What is a siccative and what is its use?
A: A siccative, or dryer, is a chemical substance used to speed the drying process of oil paints.
The mixing ratio of a siccative should be about 10 percent of the total mixture.
A high ratio of siccative in the mix will cause wrinkles or cracks.
Q: What are solvents and what is their use?
A: Solvents are used to dilute oil colors for thin, quick drying washed in the lower layers of a painting.
They are also used in mediums and for washing brushes.
Q: What is a varnish and what is its use?
A: A varnish is an oil mixture that makes the surface of a painting uniform and glossy.
When applied over dried layers of oil paint, it protects a painting’s surface and saturates colors.
Q: Can oil color be used on any ground?
A: Theoretically, oil color can be used on any kind of surface, such as cotton, linen, wood, panel,
synthetic fiber, cardboard or paper, if the surface has been adequately primed.

Q: What is gel medium?
A: Gel medium increases transparency in mixtures with acrylic paints.
Incorporating gel medium creates a strong bond in paint mixtures, prevents cracking,
and is suitable to incorporate collage on a painting surface.
Q: What is the shelf life of acrylic colors?
A: As long as acrylic colors are not exposed to the air, you can expect them to be useable for 3 to 5 years.
Q: Are canvases painted with acrylics reusable?
A: Yes, acrylic or oil paints can be painted over layers of acrylic paint.

Q: Do we use varnishes over water color paints?
A: Usually the water color paints are framed with glass, so it is not necessary to varnish water color paints,
but we do prefer varnishing on water color paints when it has to pass from hand to hand circumstances
to protect the piece from dirt and moist. But usually we don’t use varnishes over water color paints.
Q: Can water colors be used on any type of paper?
A: Water colors can be painted on many types of paper, though heavy water color paper absorbs washes best.
Q: Which brushes are appropriate for water colors?
A: Using brushes with soft bristles that can hold a lot of water is suitable for water color.
There are a variety of styles and sizes of water color brushes available, made with natural and synthetic bristles.

Q: What is the difference between Poster Colors and Gouache?
A: Poster Colors and Gouaches are both opaque paints with quick drying time.
As usual, Poster Colors are ideal for design and crafts whereas Gouache is more suitable for fine art paintings.
Q: Why do ShinHan Poster Colors have medium floating over the top of the paints?
A: ShinHan Poster Colors are manufactured using a particular method to intentionally make the medium float
on top of the paints to prevent mold and hardening.

Q: What is Korean Color? And how do we use it?
A: Artists’ Korean Color is ShinHan’s authentic creation from decades of experience and research
into Korea’s traditional color palette.
Q: What is the difference between Korean-color and Water color?
A: The major difference between Korean Color and water color is the type of vehicle in the paint mixture.
Korean colors are formulated with refined gelatin and water colors with gum Arabic.
Q: Are there any mediums that should be used when we paint Artists’ Korean Color?
A: There is one medium called Painting Glue used for mixing colors and painting thickly.
When working with Painting Glue in mixtures, you must be careful about the ratio of Painting Glue and water,
which must be 1-to-1 or 2-to-1, depending on the color.

Q: What is the best way to store the Markers?
A: Touch Markers will work fine when stored horizontally or vertically,
but the best storage method is to place markers horizontally in a dark and dry place.
Q: Can Touch Markers be used on any kind of ground?
A: Touch Markers adhere onto all possible grounds such as paper, glass, stone, wood, concrete and unglazed ceramic.
We recommend using Touch Markers on marker pads for best results.
